Kilkenny Day Trip

Curraghmore House and Kilkenny Day Trip – South East of Ireland

For this tour, we head south, on a two hour driver to the fascinating Quaker town of Portlaw, laid out by the Malcomson family for workers in their cotton mills - it is unique in Ireland.

We are heading to Curraghmore House, home to the 9th Marquis of Waterford, and a wonderful place to visit as it is still a family home with original contents, and the former butler to the 8th Marquis is usually your guide here! Here you will really get a feel for life in a "big house", enjoy a walk around the gardens and see the unique Shell House.
Curraghmore House only recently opened to the public and I rate it as one of the most interesting places you can visit, if built heritage and social history is your interest. (There is an admission charge here)

We will also incorporate a visit to Kilkenny  city into this day – this is a city of less than 35,000 people and it has a fantastic range of medieval streets and buildings as well as one of the largest and best preserved castles in Ireland. St Canice’s Cathedral has a round tower that you can climb and view the city from a viewing platform. Kilkenny is buzzy and vibrant and has a great range of shops, pubs and restaurants and is approx. 90 minutes from Dublin.
